Concrete Deterioration Diagnosis
Proper diagnosis of concrete deterioration is needed to understand the mechanisms at work and to prepare an appropriate rehabilitation strategy. This requires experience, technical knowledge and laboratory testing. These three elements have been incorporated into a belief network (probabilistic knowledge base) for supporting diagnosis and remediation decisions related to concrete pavement. The belief network evaluates symptoms of deterioration for the most likely cause. Causal mechanisms that have been included in the model cover structural, climatic, and chemical factors. Methods for rehabilitation are suggested based on the diagnosis and severity of the symptoms.
