Petenwell Hydroelectric Project
The problem of constructing and operating a water-retaining structure of considerable size on sand foundations is described in this paper. The Peten well Hydroelectric Project consists of a concrete powerhouse and spillway and several miles of earth dams and dikes, all founded on a deep bed of sand. The concrete structures were built adjacent to the river channel, and the river then was diverted to complete the earth dam.
