Smart Port Breakwater Design and Construction
This paper illustrates an approach to delivering breakwaters at a lower cost in less time by innovatively using sustainable (Biorock) technology to grow structures in the sea, an approach dubbed Smart Ports. The underlying theme is that whether the requirements are to renovate an existing facility or to build a port at a remote site, port developers, owners, and operators can benefit from combining sustainable and innovative engineering and construction techniques to not only lower project cost and improve construction schedules but also to improve asset sustainability and life cycle management.
