Impulsive Motion of Elasto-Plastic Beams
A general analysis is made of the vibrations of elasto-plastic structures. This analysis is applied to free-free beams moving under dynamic forces. The motion during the successive elastic and elasto-plastic stages is expressed in terms of the normal modes of the structure; the maximum plastic angle is evaluated. The case of impulsive loads (initial velocities), which is of practical interest, is considered specifically; by using simplifying assumptions, upper and (often) lower bounds of the plastic angle can be determined.
