A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Vandens muziejus Vilniuje ; Museum of Water in Vilnius
The final master thesis topic is a solution to a particular problem of the river integration discussed in the analytical part. The analytical part covers the analysis of river value in city structures of Lithuania, detailed analysis of analogical projects in other countries, principles of objects on/near water. Depending of the object’s function, museum’s typology, specific spatial solutions are overviewed, expositions psychology and impact for visitors is explored. The aim is to make a museum of water project, which would solve the problems caused by issues analyzed in the work. Two issues are dealt with in parallel: the potential of river underspending in the city and water issues. The problematic areas of Neris River are identified and the location for the project is selected after the consistent analysis. The design part consists of design variations, suggestions with evaluations, area analysis, detailed proposal of the designed object. The aim is to create a connection between Naujamiestis and Lazdynai districts and give free space to city in which people will be able to develop educational abilities, thus addressing water issues and including river into the urban environment. The museum of water cannot solve most of the water issues in their physical properties, however it can give properly designed spaces, in which user’s mindset is changed by providing important information. The written part consists of introduction, analytical part, project design part, conclusions, references. Appendixes: 10 placards and 2 models are added separately.
