Jonava district is located in a very convenient geographical site, almost in the very centre of the country, beside the second largest city in Lithuania – Kaunas. That is why this district is so attractive for people, who want to escape urban noise, but do not lose touch with rhythm of life. The aim of this research is to analyze selling of public lands in Jonava district, to evaluate the particularities of selling exploited pieces of public land and the problems that come in this process. The fundamental legal acts regulating the issues of purchasing-selling public land are the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on Land Reform, the Civil Code of the Republic of Lithuania, the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on Land, also the post-law acts. Following these acts, pieces of public land are projected, purchasing-selling agreements are arranged and documents of land property are prepared. In Jonava district private land makes up approximately 47 percent. This is determined by the almost accomplished reinstatement of property rights and the enlarged number of arrangements on purchasing-selling public lands. The number of applications for purchasing pieces of public land from physical and juridical persons is increasing in Jonava district every year. This is determined by the increasing of the state price of land, as well as the market price. Subjects, who have been delaying in arranging their exploited pieces of public land, although have paid extraordinary state payments for them, are hurrying to do this nowadays.
