A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Architektūrinė erdvė kaip atminties regeneracija; Lukiškių kalėjimo Vilniuje konversija ; Architecture Space as Memory Regeneration; Conversion of Prison in Vilnius
In the modern world, full of diverse information, there is a lot of research and it becomes difficult to choose. Architect Rem Koolhaas has stressed that "we live in a [.] digital world where everything is accessible, but with less and less memory." But memory is the identity of human, the state, the nation, and the world. "A human with a trained memory has an advantage over others, which helps him to remain competitive in the world." The need for memory preservation is therefore unquestionable, but the problem is that the city creates spaces, objects are focused on event recording, which, according to the architect P. Zumthor ' u and J. Pllasmaa are sometimes artificial and do not encourage remembering, while communication, urban fabric and synthesis of new and old space formants are important for socially collective memory preservation. It can be said that the city is creating one of the big archives that constantly changes as a child's lego. However, it is important that urban change and new spaces create a link with local history that has continuity, a clear narrative, encourages interpretation, reminds and allows new memories to be created.
