A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Dienos šviesa kaip architektūrinės išraiškos priemonė; Krematoriumas Vilniuje ; Daylight as a means of architectural expression; Crematorium in Vilnius
The master’s thesis presents a project of a crematorium in Vilnius. The territory chosen for the project is near Liepynes cemetery, at Zirniu street. The city lacks a multifunctional burial facility with a crematorium. The concept of a plot is a response to the problem and therefore the solutions presented in this project will enable the object to contribute to the welfare of the city and its community. The graduation project comprised a thorough investigation of cemetery objects, whereas the notion of sacrum and profanum are related to the architectural concept of new urbanism. The designed building is multifunctional, divided into three main functional zones: visitors, cremation and servicing along with administration. A columbarium park is planned near the crematorium. The priority was given to create a new burial facility of high quality in the background of the current cemetery and to join the designed parts. The process of designing took into account various aspects of psychology and sociology, the perception and effect on users as well as the widely recognised issue of aesthetics. The result we are presented with is the attractive architectural form that is defined by a clear functional planning and compounded into a well-ordered district.
