SD566.O7 P74 1994 ; OR X/R63 .2W67 ; 141 ; "A report presented to the Applegate Partnership."; "May, 1994."; Includes ill.; Permission to digitize granted November 2003. ; "The Applegate Partnership was formed in 1992 by representatives of the timber industry, environmental groups, local citizens, the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service. It is a community-based project cooperating to encourage and facilitate the use of natural resource principles that promote ecosystem health and diversity. As planning for ecosystem management got underway, it became obvious that a community assessment would be an important complement to the ecosystem assessment. Changes were underway in the valley which would influence forest management. Not many residents were involved with the natural resource agencies or with the Partnership. The Partnership wanted to broaden its involvement in the community and to identify community concerns. It asked the Rogue Institute for Ecology and Economy (RIEE) to conduct a community assessment . objectives . 1. Help the Partnership understand how the community works so it can anticipate community concerns and improve management decisions. 2. Improve community participation in planning and implementing forest management in order to gain the support of the community. 3. Create jobs, a diversified economy and community improvements consistent with ecosystem management." P. 2,3 [11,12].
