This FEIS presents seven alternatives that respond to the issues and result in different environmental consequences . The Shasta Costa Planning Area (23,419 acres) is located in Curry County, Oregon, approximately 30 miles east of the Pacific Ocean. The community of Agness lies immediately west of the Planning Area . Most of the Planning Area is covered by mixed evergreen forest, with mixed conifer forests at higher elevations and grassy sites and brushfields throughout the area. Black-tailed deer and black bear roam the entire area, while Elk frequent the Burnt Ridge area. Chinook salmon use the lower 3 miles of the Shasta Costa Creek, and steelhead move upstream about 6 miles. Sensitive plant species inhabit the area, but no threatened or endangered plant species have been identified in the area. Northern Spotted Owl nest sites have been identified in the Planning Area" P. S-1 [18].
