A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Dynamic measurements on experimental helicopter platform and on moat street flyover, coventry
Experimental helicopter platform was constructed to obtain measurements of dynamic amplifications of rapidly applied loads of heavy landings; it consisted essentially of reinforced concrete slab on number of adjustable supports; flyover is new structure with composite steel and concrete deck on which measurements of response to heavy vehicle loads were made in parallel with laboratory tests on simpler composite beams; instrumentation of two structures included resistance strain gages and load cells, inductance accelerometers and potentiometric transducers all coupled to multi-channel galvanometer trace recorders.
