Thermal conductivity of serpentinite from Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, and other localities
Thermal conductivity of 20 samples of resaturated serpentinite at 30 C and 50 bars, from 305 m hole near Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, ranges from 4.06 to 6.42 millical/cm/sec/C, and averages 5.34 plus or minus 0.55; range of conductivity reflects variation in porosity of rocks (0.6 to 6.2%) as well as variation in content of accessory minerals; conductivity of samples provided from 5 classical serpentine localities ranges from 5.3 to 7.4; conductivities of principal minerals found in ultra-mafic rocks are tabulated, and from these data conductivity of rock can be estimated from mineral content.
