220-ft high gravity-type concrete dam on Columbia River, Wash, will house 27 generators capable of developing 1,728,000 kw; 1,700,000 cu yd of concrete, 70 million lb of reinforcing steel and 30 million lb of structural steel will be required; intake channel will be 3000 ft long, 1000 ft wide and 30 ft deep; reinforced-concrete diversion walls were built inside cofferdam to protect dam foundation.
