Factors affecting slag penetration of refractory mortar joints
Laboratory slag-cup and pier tests of 36 super duty refractory mortars were used for rating their chemical resistance to slag and shrinkage characteristics; results show that mortars most resistant to slag attack at 2910 F are those which have highest percentage of crystalline refractory phases and least glass content in fired material; generally, high alumina phosphate bonded mortars were most resistant; degree of penetration of joint is essentially related to resistance of mortar to solution by slag and to shrinkage characteristics of mortar, etc. (12160)
