Attenuation of stresses for buried cylinders
Analysis is presented for interaction of elastic circular cylindrical shell embedded in elastic medium which is loaded by surface overpressure; nondimensionalized equations are presented for interaction loads between shell and medium for thrusts, moments, and displacements in shell, and for stresses and displacements throughout medium; analysis is made through use of extensional shell theory for shell and Michell's formulation of Airy's stress function for medium; equations for medium reduce to free cavity case if shell stiffnesses become zero, and reduce to rigid inclusion case if shell stiffnesses become infinite.
