A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Lateral or sidesway buckling of multistory frames, considered as three-dimensional structures, is examined; governing equations are written for structures with or without shear bracing and having floors that may function as deformable diaphragms; method for obtaining solution to system of equations is described and is used to establish criteria for critical magnitude of specified set of applied loads; extension of theory to buckling in lateral-torsional mode is evaluated; theory may be especially relevant to buildings with girderless floors and shear walls, and to long, narrow multistory buildings.
