New matrix-energy method for analyzing all stresses in rigidly connected highway bridge trusses
Theoretical development of proposed matrix-energy method and examples for orientation of its exact and simplified versions are set forth; method of panel-load superposition is advanced as substitute for influence lines; three-span continuous highway bridge truss was selected for objective analysis; proposed method yields maximum axial stresses and simultaneous end moments and transverse shears, and maximum end moments and simultaneous axial stresses and transverse shears; larger requirement of two constitutes absolute maximum stress state that should govern design.
