Arc welding speeds construction of office building
It is shown how savings in cost and construction time were obtained in recently completed office building by use of arc-welded and composite structural members as compared with all-bolted and non-composite construction; medium-size, three-story building was designed and built within 10 1/2 mo; it will provide 150,000 sq ft of floor space immediately, and 50,000 sq ft more in future; floor beams, mostly 16 B 31's and 16 WF 40's, are composite with 4 1/2 in. light weight concrete floor slab; cost data are given, and specific advantages, as compared with bolted connections, are discussed.
