Shaft raising in Alabama
Ventilation shaft 18 ft in diam and 230 ft deep was raised at coal mine near Birmingham, Ala; pregrouting to insure dry shaft was done by diamond core drilling and step grouting; center diamond drill hole was drilled from surface into entry below; 43 nine inch holes were drilled on three circle pattern; shooting and mucking were finished in 21 days on single shift basis; costs and safety record on project were good.
