Measuring instruments for strutted excavations
Description of instruments and techniques used by Norwegian Geotechnical Institute to measure strut loads, earth and water pressures, and movements for design and construction of strutted excavations in both soft and stiff-fissured clays is presented, together with information concerning cost, accuracy, and reliability of these instruments; examples of successful use on jobs; cost of struts is shown to be minor compared to other excavation factors.
