Bureau of Reclamation is embedding 1716 meters in mass concrete of Yellowtail Dam, now under construction near Hardin, Mont; all are of unbonded-resistance-wire type; they include strain, stress and pore-pressure meters, joint meters across contraction joints, rock deformation meters extending 60 ft into foundation rock, strain meters mounted on steel penstock liner, and reinforcement meters in reinforcing steel surrounding penstock; three inverted plumb lines are also to be installed; arrangement and method of installation are discussed.
