Temperature and ventilation in Toronto subway
Temperature and air flow measurements in 2 adjacent stations of Toronto Yonge Street subway system indicated average ventilation rates due to train piston action plus fans of between 70 and 130 cfm/ft of tunnel; these rates were enough to limit average subway temperature to about 11 F above ambient and to limit diurnal subway tempera ture variation to about 10 F, ambient temperature varying as much as 20 F; comparison with approximate theory indicated that subway is operating near optimum conditions.
