Sidewalk-based 330-ft-high steel tower scaffold protects numerous passersby during demolition of walls of Times Tower at Times Square, New York City; most of original steel frame of former building will remain; its structural condition and paint are excellent after 60 yr; for solid-walled parts of renovated tower, material will be precast concrete panels with marble veneer, with marble mullions and lintels elsewhere; renovated building will be showcase and marketing center for Allied Chemical Co.
