In impervious clay which is to be found at certain depth in underground of Antwerp area, tunnels are liable to be built by shield method, walls being lined by means of concrete archstone; tunnels of this kind are suitable for storage of liquid gases under low pressure and, simultaneously or alternatively, for traffic of personnel from one side of Scheldt River to other and passage of pipe lines as well.
