Thermogravimetric investigation of carbonation phenomenon in concrete
Calcium hydroxide content and penetration of calcium carbonate in concrete can be explained with aid of thermogravimetry; in case investigated boundary of carbonated layer is very clearly defined, having penetrated 60 mm in course of 40 yr, and steel bars embedded in concrete at depth of 20-35 mm had begun to corrode; other investigations indicate that rate of carbonation varies greatly with quality of concrete and with external circumstances.
