Structures for Preston-Lancaster portion of M6 motorway is 1300-ft long 11-span curved viaduct at Broughton 2-level interchange; basic design is welded steel box section spine set on curve with cantilever arms supporting reinforced concrete roadway acting compositely and having width between parapets of 44 ft; undirectional roadway is 24 ft wide with 10 ft hard shoulder plus marginal strips, crash barriers and railings; viaduct is in 2 continuous sections with expansion joint over one of central piers.
