Concrete bridge destroyed to test it
Tests to destruction were made on Swiss bridge, built in 1954-55, which had to be removed due to building of new highway; bridge was statically indeterminate prestressed concrete structure with span of 23 m; overall width over sidewalks was 8.9 m and there was 13.8° angle of skew; there was close agreement between theoretical and actual values, except with respect to vibration characteristics; tests were conducted by Swiss Federal Laboratories for Testing Materials and Research.
