Trickling filter stone gradation and placement
Tests showed that few fines are produced in placing stone by dropping it into trickling filter; with stones larger than 2 in. and graded within 0.5 in., 50% void volume could be maintained even at maximum compaction; any mixture of different-sized stones resulted in reduction of void volume.
