Laboratory and field evaluation of nuclear surface gages for determining soil moisture and density
Eight soils from various areas of California were used in tests; calibration curve was developed for each soil and all calibration curves were compared; volume of soil being measured was determined; reproducibility and other characteristics of nuclear gages were studied; nuclear gages were used on 10 projects under construction and nuclear readings were compared to conventional tests; results of this evaluation program indicated that individual calibration curves would be required for various soils encountered.
