A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Reclamite, emulsion of petroleum oils and resins (Golden Bear Oil Co), previously used to reclaim old asphalt pavements is successfully applied as sealer and preserver of new asphalt pavements; first applied in 1961 on test section in Kern County, California, yielded high penetration values on 1964 core tests; surface conditions on new pavement showed no failure while untreated surface did; treatment is anticipated to double life of pavement at present costs of 5 cents/sq yd; rapid penetration time of 10 min permits traffic use within one hour.
