Dredge moves island, fills river and builds highways
Performance of dredge "Alaska" used for relocation of 3.8 million cu yd, operating at 1200 cu yd/hr on new Interstate 787 highway project to build highway on top of smaller flood relief channel of Hudson River near Albany, NY; on working end of dredge is 18-ton cutter screw and 30-in. diam intake pipe; cutter screw is driven by two 500 hp d-c motors; mounted inside is pump shell and casing which houses large diameter impeller; discharge orifice of pump is 27 in. in diam, as is pipe that transports mixture of water and solids from dredge to its point of discharge.
