Lightweight concrete footbridge has rugged appearance
Four-span prestressed concrete footbridge with overall length of 200 ft and 8 ft wide decking was completed at University of Newcastle, New South Wales; solid balustrading is used as structural component; vertical curve in bridge is of 1520 ft radius; girders are of prestressed light weight concrete, supported by reinforced concrete piers; bridge piers were designed to take girder reactions and wind forces due to 90 mph winds; design live load for girders was 100 lb/sq ft and their density was assumed at 120 lb/cu ft.
