Reconstruction of Arakawa river bridge
Original double-line bridge is being rebuilt to conform to new bridge and in all three bridges spans are of identical length enabling piers to be in line; main spans are flanked on each side by four 126-ft through prestressed concrete slab spans of unusual design; model tests showed that deformations of slab and girders were in most cases less than calculated values; sketches of test model and reinforcement in full-size trapezoidal girders are given; trapezoidal prestressed concrete through span is used to minimize construction depth above river.
