Homestake collection system -- Intakes and conduits
Rugged terrain, short construction season, and severe weather conditions presented number of problems in design and construction of western slope collection system of Homestake Project; diversion dams at principal streams had to be designed to be overtopped by floods, but generally could not be founded on bed-rock; close consideration was given to wide variety of open and closed conduit systems; pipe line system was finally adopted throughout.
