Filling and emptying systems -- Millers Ferry and Jones Bluff Locks, Alabama river, Alabama -- Hydraulic model investigation
New type of lock filling and emptying system was investigated in model study; system called longitudinal floor culvert system was designed to improve balance of flow into two ends of chamber; two satisfactory floor culvert systems were developed; type 23 culvert arrangement is recommended for use at Millers Ferry project where foundation conditions require system to be confined within approximately middle third of lock chamber; type 41 culvert arrangement is recommended for use at Jones Bluff Lock where no space restrictions are placed on system.
