Navigation conditions at millers ferry lock and dam, Alabama river, Alabama
Project provides for lock and dam and power plant in earth dike about 3000 ft downstream of main dam; structures will consist of long overflow embankment, 1012-ft-long gated spillway, 84×600-ft lock on left side of spillway, earth dike extending from lock downstream to powerhouse intake section, and earth dike extending from powerhouse normal to river to high ground; lock will have maximum lift of 48 ft; undistorted 1 to 100-scale, fixed-bed model, reproducing approximately 3.16 mi of Alabama River including lock and dam and powerhouse facilities, was used to determine adequacy of proposed design and to develop modifications.
