Earthquake hydrodynamic pressures on arch dams -- Electric analogue solution
Electric analog procedure to determine water pressures on arch dams or other submerged structures when subject to any prescribed system of accelerations, is described; main assumption implicit-in analog is incompressibility of water; procedure of deriving influence coefficients allows pressures to be computed for arbitrary acceleration distributions and lends itself to coupling with general vibration problem of structure; method is applied to case in which exact analytical solution is known and its good accuracy demonstrated; solutions for 3 shapes of arch dam are given; general trends of pressure distribution indicated.
