Lancashire North-South motorway has 8.26 mi total length, 70 mph design speed, dual carriageways 24 ft wide flanked by 1-ft marginal strips; 20,000 lb wheel load curve design; hard burned red colliery shale used for subbase upon which was laid 9-in, premixed water bound macadam; 22 bridges built over or under motorway; construction procedures.
