A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
While electric field is being applied, permeability of soil is increased by factor of two or more, thereby reducing time required to introduce group when pumping at specified pressure; electric field also acts to pump grout into soil or causes development of negative pore pressures near grout pipe which effectively increase grouting pressures without increasing danger of surface heave; summary is presented of some recently reported, successful applications of electrokinetics in grouting in Roumania, Israel, United States and Great Britain; several possible limitations of method are suggested and indication of cost of power is presented.
