Practical calculation of circular cylindrical shell under external pressure
Under certain assumptions regarding process of nonlinear buckling and relations between shell deformations and dimensions, approximate formulas are derived for transient buckling load in elastic range; it is found that transient buckling load amounts to about 70% of critical load; method can also be extended to plastic range; theoretical predictions are in satisfactory agreement with experimental results.
