Hydrodynamic pressure for design of dams subjected to earthquakes
Method is proposed to estimate maximum hydrodynamic pressure in two-dimensional reservoir subjected to horizontal earthquake motions; method parallels modal analysis used for buildings; hydrodynamic spectrum concept introduced results in curves that nearly match response spectra for sine, cosine, and El Centro 1940 ground motions; this leads to conclusion that ordinary damped spectra can be used for computing hydrodynamic water pressure.
