Earth dams subjected to earthquakes
Paper presents factors affecting stability of earth dam under earthquake forces with particular reference to Ramganga dam, 122 m high; field blasting tests to determine dominant period of ground and other necessary data along with results of model tests on large shock vibration table have been described; model tests offer good scope for qualitative study of problem of stability under earthquake loads; variation of acceleration with height of dam is similar to that predicted theoretically.
