Surface decarburization of steel in heating furnaces
Kinetics of decarburization of four types of steel (60, 60S2, U10A and ShKh15) are investigated with help of C-14 isotope between 700 and 1080 C; experimental findings show that while at 700 C there is no decarburization, from 800 C onward this increases appreciably with temperature; decarburization also is influenced by holding time and by chemical reactions taking place at metal-gas boundaries.
