A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Unusual roof structure consists of two steel arches, inclined inward; these elements span 85 m but by reason of efficient structural form could be fabricated in very economical light-weight sections; rest of roof structure, consisting of orthodox system of beams and purlins was designed in seamless tubing; beams are of interest because of their rather uncommon bowstring shape and span (27 m); hall is enclosed at its ends by two gable walls; characteristics of structural design, constructional details, fabrication, materials incorporated and erection of steelwork are covered.
