A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Laboratory test procedure for evaluating durability of paving asphalts is proposed which is intended to simulate two-stage hardening of asphalt during mixing processes and subsequent pavement service life; test consists of first subjecting asphalt to thin film oven test (TFOT) and then treating residue in oxygen at high pressures; TFOT at 325 F is to simulate changes that may occur in asphalt during hot-mixing, and pressure-oxidation process at 150 F is to simulate changes that may occur in asphalt during pavement service life; 1/8-in. film thickness is used in both treatments.
