Prestressed columns rise nine stories
Office building on University of California's Davis Campus was erected almost entirely of pretensioned, precast concrete components, including 9-story prestressed columns extending full height of building along its perimeter, each precast in one piece; channel-shaped precast floor sections span width of 36 ft, leaving office space unobstructed by columns; inverted concrete-arch foundation distributes building load on subgrade; basement walls, concrete stairs and elevator shaft were also cast in place.
