Bridge is double-leaf bascule of trunnion type; on lower deck there is roadway 42 ft. 8 in. wide, and two footwalks; on upper deck three railway tracks; bascule span is 305 ft. in length; channel is on skew of 42 deg. 1300 piles for each pier were driven by submarine steam hammer; each leaf carries dead load of 2,223,000 lb.; power for operating each leaf is supplied by two 80-hp. induction motors.
