Reinforced concrete side walls of subway tunnel were cast in unsheeted trenches and then roof was cast over walls; earth was subsequently excavated when concrete was set; this "Milan" method was applied in order to shorten time of traffic suspension in congested city areas; photographs show phases of construction.
