Precipitation hardening characteristics of cast high-carbon alloys; it can be assumed that fundamental cause of thermally activated slip in austenite at elevated temperatures is thermal strain occurring during accelerated heating; effect is strengthened by phase strains (particularly at temperatures below stable eutectoid equilibrium) occurring in transformation of austenite into ferrite-carbide mixture, which has larger specific volume, and also by original casting strains.
