Effect of Decomposing cattle dung and pyrite on the utilization of mineral acid-soluble phosphate by mustard
AbstractMussoorie rockphosphate (MRP) and triple superphosphate (TSP) were incubated with and without pyrite and cattle dung for 16 weeks. The levels of P, organic manure and pyrite were 0, 10, 20 and 40 ppm; 0 and 0·25% and 0, 450 and 1080 ppm on soil weight basis, respectively. To test the efficiency of the P-enriched compost, mustard (cv. RH-30) was grown as an indicator crop up to the preflowering stage in a pot culture experiment. Mussoorie rockphosphate was an inferior source of P for mustard compared to TSP. However, pre-incubation of MRP with cattle dung and pyrite increased the efficiency of MRP. The differences between MRP and TSP in mustard dry matter yield, total P uptake and availability coefficient ratios were substantially reduced after incubating the P sources with cattle dung and pyrite.
